Job duties:
- Oversee highest productivity, health, & sustainability of herd by assisting with agrotechnical engineering processes.
- Apply knowledge of agrotechnical engineering technology to agrotechnical problems regarding our feedlot’s power & machinery, including water treatment equipment & cattle feed & health structures, water conservation, water treatment, soil conservation, & processing of agricultural products.
- Monitor & evaluate water treatment facilities to identify possible environmental problems.
- Collaborate on improvements to rural electric power distribution systems, irrigation, drainage, & flood control systems for water & soil conservation; assist with government mandated Nutrient Management Plan.
- Prepare reports & specifications regarding agrotechnical processes & feedlot operations.
- Track animal health & safety.
- Evaluate & test feedlot machinery & equipment to ensure adequate performance & safety.
- Develop solutions for animal waste & manure handling.
- Assess environmental factors that affect water, cattle, & soil in our feedlot, including water treatment facilities, lagoons, runoff patterns in fields, airflow in cattle containment units, onsite animal hospitals, & grain containment silos; assist in creating environments that increase cattle comfort.
- Advise on water quality & pollution management issues, lagoon water control, & ground/surface water resources.
Minimum Education Requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Agricultural Science, Agricultural Technology, Agricultural Engineering Technology, or related field.
Minimum Experience Requirement:
- 2 years of experience with water conservation.
Job duties:
- Oversee the highest productivity, health, and sustainability of Poky Feeders’ herd by using advanced knowledge and skills in animal science to assist in developing, implementing, and overseeing effective animal management programs.
- Contribute to nutrition, hydration, growth, and development processes of our cattle.
- Lead implementation of animal health programs to identify and diagnose sick animals, including stimulating movement among the herd to observe physical symptoms of potentially ill animals.
- Assist with assessments regarding cattle health to contribute to establishing cattle health patterns.
- Develop and implement improved practices related to feeding, housing, sanitation, parasite and disease control of cattle.
- Using knowledge of animal science, recommend protocol for assessment and treatment of minor injuries and illnesses.
- Oversee conduct monitoring regarding herd management to improve the health of the cattle and improve our overall herd management processes.
- Oversee recording of animal characteristics and other health and nutrition data such as weight, growth patterns, and diets.
- Perform cattle treatment therapy, for example giving medication or adjusting nutrition.
- Provide recommendations regarding overall herd health and nutrition.
- Lead the developing and implementing of effective animal nutrition programs to maximize animal health and well-being, including implementing protocols for monitoring cattle feed and water intake, among others.
Minimum education requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Veterinary Medicine, or directly related field. Higher degree acceptable.
Minimum experience requirement:
- 3 years of animal health experience.
