Poky Feeders is one of the largest commercial feedlots in the state of Kansas with a current one-time capacity of 103,000 head. Our unique combination of facilities and experience allow us to identify and manage all aspects of animal profitability. And we have the administrative strength and marketing position to help cattle feeders make the most of their investment.
In addition to the cattle feeding business, Poky also operates an on-site sow unit and feeds the production in Iowa and Minnesota.
History
Poky Feeders was created in 1980 by a group of Iowa cattle feeders. At that time, the feedyard had a one-time capacity of 6,000 head.
The yard grew to 30,000, then 40,000 head in the mid 1990’s when colleagues in the area began meeting to kick around ideas that eventually helped create U.S. Premium Beef (USPB).
Poky invested heavily in USPB shares, earning the right and obligation to supply many thousand head of cattle. That investment was a risk that ultimately rewarded Poky and their customers for producing high-quality cattle. Obligations met opportunity as Poky redoubled efforts to build relationships with producers from Arkansas to Oregon, leading to another wave of expansions.
In 2020, Poky celebrated 40 years of business and service to our many loyal customers who have grown through their alignment with Poky Feeders.
